Your component / Your application

Source the bore finishing your component needs.

ID grinding uses an abrasive wheel inside the component to finish an internal surface. Bore access and the reach of the grinding tool are important considerations when reviewing the operation.

For an internal-grinding operation or a complete component, include a section view that shows the bore and related features. Through bores, blind ends and interruptions present different access conditions; the full geometry helps define the work included in your quote.

Bore geometry

Provide the finished diameter, depth, entry geometry and any internal shoulders or reliefs. State whether the bore is through or blind and show interruptions in the ground surface.

Related features

Identify the reference surfaces and required relationship to outside diameters or end faces. Include the applicable drawing controls rather than relying on a general description of alignment.

Surface and access

Specify finish requirements, material condition and starting dimensions. Include any restrictions on edge breaks, internal corners or surfaces that must remain untouched.

  • Quantity, delivery needs and required bore inspection records

Common questions

Before you send the drawing.

Why does bore depth matter to the quote?

Depth affects tool reach and access. The grinding tool must reach the required surface, and its support must suit the operation. A bore diameter alone does not communicate those conditions.

Is ID grinding interchangeable with honing?

They are different finishing processes. If your specification requires one, identify it. If the method is open, send the geometry and finished requirements so the team can review the appropriate scope.
